Children\u2019s oral and dental health is considered one of the fundamental pillars of overall health and proper development. Numerous studies have confirmed that oral diseases in childhood\u2014most notably dental caries\u2014are among the most common chronic diseases affecting children worldwide. Early neglect of dental health does not only impact the mouth but also extends to affect nutrition, physical growth, psychological development, and academic performance.<\/p>\n

The Beginning of Oral Care in Children<\/strong><\/p>\n

Modern guidelines indicate that oral care should begin from birth. It is recommended to gently clean the infant\u2019s gums after feeding using a damp gauze. With the eruption of the first primary tooth\u2014usually around 6 months of age\u2014a soft toothbrush and a fluoride-containing toothpaste appropriate for the child\u2019s age should be introduced.<\/p>\n

Studies have shown that early initiation of tooth cleaning significantly reduces the risk of Early Childhood Caries (ECC).<\/p>\n

Functional and Biological Importance of Primary Teeth<\/strong><\/p>\n

Primary teeth play a crucial role in:<\/p>\n

  2. Speech development and correct pronunciation<\/li>\n

    Untreated decay in primary teeth may lead to pulpal infections and dental abscesses, and the infection can spread to the developing permanent teeth, causing structural defects or eruption disturbances.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the organization collaborates with health and educational institutions to establish international standards aimed at reducing the prevalence of oral diseases in children and reinforcing the concept of prevention as a long-term health investment that ensures healthier generations and safer smiles.<\/p>\n
